Friday Night Surprise

It was a wonderful friday night. I enjoyed a delicious gourmet pizza from my town's local place and then enjoyed a 4 buck movie at the historic theater just down the block. I love my town, and summertime is always a great example of why. Our historic town square hasn't turned into the tourist destination that so many other "quaint" places have fallen victim to. Instead, it has remained a vibrant place for locals to gather together as a community. In addition to the hopping pizza business that was going on, and the crowd of people that showed up for the movie, the town square was filled with people lounging about for the friday night summertime tradition: free concerts in the park. Center around the town's gazebo, listeners gather on blankets and lawn chairs to relax, enjoy, and most likely run into a neighbor or two. This year, the town has added a new feature to create even more activity: Friday Night Farmer's Market. Now you can shop for some goodies to enjoy while you listen to the music! Walking back to our cars after the movie, my family soaked in the ambience of some of what makes my hometown a great place.

We may now technically be a "city" by population standards, but at our heart, we will always be the small town I grew up and love.

But my evening did not end there! My friday night surprise was not how great my town is, since I already knew this, but the message that was waiting for me when I returned home. I was notified of recieving a wonderful honor. I was chosen to recieve the "One Lovely Blog Award". Not sure what that is? Neither was I. Stay tuned for my next post to find out what it is all about, and what great bloggers nominated me for the award!
